Chairman of the Management Board of "Samruk-Energy" JSC, Kairat Maxutov, and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of China International Water and Electric Corporation (CIWE), Shi Intao, have signed a cooperation agreement for the construction of the first pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant (PSHPP) in Kazakhstan. The parties have agreed to collaborate on the project's development and implementation.
Specifically, China International Water and Electric Corporation plans to conduct a comprehensive technical and economic assessment of the project, including an analysis of Kazakhstan's hydroelectric potential. Furthermore, Chinese experts have offered to share their expertise in implementing hydroelectric projects and to provide support for the construction of the country's first PSHPP.
Previously, China International Water and Electric Corporation was involved in constructing Moynak Hydropower Plant, the largest hydroelectric station in Southern Kazakhstan. The agreement signed by both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further collaboration and strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships to execute a groundbreaking project in the country's energy sector.
It's important to note that a pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant (PSHPP) is designed to even out the daily fluctuations in electricity demand. It's crucial for both generating and storing electricity, ensuring uninterrupted power supply even during peak demand periods and extreme conditions.
