On the modernization of the Almaty CHP-2

In March-April 2020, Samruk-Energo plans to receive preliminary results of the development of a feasibility study for the project to modernize the Almaty TPP-2. This was stated today by the Chairman of the Board of JSC "Samruk-Energy" Bakitzhan Zhulamanov during his speech at the Committee of economic policy, innovative development and entrepreneurship of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.

As it was said during the speech, Samruk-Energo pays special attention to environmental protection issues. Thus, in order to reduce the negative impact on the environmental situation in Almaty, a project has been launched to modernize the Almaty TPP-2. There are several options for implementing the project:

  • construction of a new station;
  • expansion of CHPP-2 with construction of combined-cycle gas plants
  • conversion of the current station to gas.

The work of the electric power industry and uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers was discussed in the Senate during the meeting of the members of the Committee for economic policy, innovative development and entrepreneurship and the Committee on international relations, defense and security with the competent authorities.
