“Samruk-Energy” JSC Board of Directors approved the new development strategy of the Company for the next 10 years. Among other things, the document includes plans for development of "green" energy.
The development strategy of the largest Kazakhstani power holding company adheres, but is not limited to, sustainable development principles set out in the United Nations Global Compact. The Strategy includes the state policy in strategic planning of the national energy security system and is consistent with key strategic directions, goals, and objectives of “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC.
During implementation of the Development Strategy, “Samruk-Energy” JSC will be committed to securing a dominant share of electricity generation in the RK market always pursuing national interests of ensuring reliable, uninterrupted supply of energy resources.
It is worth noting that Kazakhstan, like the whole world, is embarking on the stage of 4th energy transition to the widespread use of renewable energy sources, which over time will largely supersede fossil fuels - gas, oil, coal. In this regard, global trends towards the transition to a "green economy", growing ESG requirements of stakeholders, are challenges for Samruk-Energy. Recognizing the importance of the agenda and risks associated with operations based on coal generation, the company outlined directions for transition to a "green" economy in the Development Strategy and is confidently moving towards achieving it.
Various activities are planned to reduce the net carbon footprint and increase the share of clean energy, they are introduction of ESG principles, construction of renewable energy facilities, the transfer of part of the Company's assets to gas, the use of best available technologies in carbon capture and storage, accumulation, digitization and improving energy efficiency.
We would like to remind that over January-December 2020 electricity production by “Samruk-Energy” JSC RE facilities (SPP, WPP, small HPP) amounted to 335.8 mln. kWh or 10.8% of the total electricity generated by all RES facilities in Kazakhstan. Currently, the company is working on projects related to "green" energy, including construction of 60 and 50 MW wind power plants in Almaty and Akmola regions, counter-regulating 40 MW Kerbulak HPP on the Ili River.

Core business: electricity and heat production; transmission, distribution and sale of electricity, power coal mining.
