During the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025 forum in Abu Dhabi, senior leadership of “Samruk-Energy” JSC and Masdar, a leading international renewable energy company, held a meeting to discuss the implementation of a large-scale project for the construction of a 1 GW wind power plant with an energy storage system in Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan.
Key milestones for the project in 2025 were outlined during the meeting, including design and survey work, the signing of an EPC contract, and the commencement of construction and installation activities. The project forms part of Kazakhstan's strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix and reduce carbon emissions.
The wind farm will generate green energy for approximately 300,000 households and is expected to offset 2 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually, making it one of the largest wind farms in the CIS region.
Aligned with Kazakhstan's climate objectives, the wind power plant in the Zhambyl region will contribute to the country achieving its goal of sourcing 15% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
