Samruk-Energy and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Power Environmental Solutions sign a strategic cooperation agreement

As part of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Japan, Samruk-Energy JSC held a series of discussions with the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries group focused on the long-term modernization of energy assets and the deployment of advanced environmental technologies.

A meeting was held with the participation of the Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, Nurlan Zhakupov, and the President and CEO of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., Mr. Eisaku Ito. During the discussions, the parties reviewed MHI’s current presence and prospects for expanding its operations in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as opportunities for developing a long-term strategic partnership in the energy sector.

Particular attention was given to cooperation at key facilities of the Ekibastuz energy hub, namely Ekibastuz SDPP-1 and Ekibastuz SDPP-2. The discussions covered the application of advanced Mitsubishi Heavy Industries technologies in the modernization of generation capacities, emission reduction, and improvement of the operational reliability of the plants. Opportunities for further joint activities at other Samruk-Energy production facilities were also considered.

Following the discussions, a Strategic Cooperation Agreement was signed between Samruk-Energy JSC and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Power Environmental Solutions, Ltd. The Agreement provides for the implementation of a modernization program for the Ekibastuz SDPP-1 and Ekibastuz SDPP-2 power plants over the period from 2026 to 2036, with total planned investments of approximately USD 120 million.

The signed document establishes a long-term framework for deepening the partnership, introducing advanced Japanese technologies, and implementing comprehensive solutions aimed at the sustainable development of Kazakhstan’s energy infrastructure.
