Samruk-Energy and Energy China begin construction of Kazakhstan’s largest solar power plant

Samruk-Energy JSC, in partnership with Chinese company Energy China, has launched construction of a 300 MW solar power plant with an energy storage system in the Turkestan region.

During a ceremonial event today, a time capsule was placed to symbolize the official start of the future power plant. This project represents one of the company’s key initiatives in renewable energy, aimed at modernizing the national energy sector and enhancing the reliability of electricity supply in Kazakhstan’s southern regions.

The event was attended by Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC; executives from Energy China; H.E. Han Chunlin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kazakhstan; and the regional leadership of Turkestan.

On-site, the official commencement of construction was marked by Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Energy JSC; Lin Xiao Dan, Chairman of the Board of China Energy Overseas Investment Company; and Nuralhan Kusherov, Mayor of Turkestan region.

The project forms part of Samruk-Energy’s broader program to expand its green generation portfolio. Innovative technologies will be implemented, including next-generation photovoltaic panels with solar tracking mechanisms and energy storage systems, ensuring stable power generation and enhanced transmission efficiency to the grid.

The project is expected to create new jobs, attract investment to the region, and stimulate infrastructure development. Once completed, the solar power plant will be among the largest in Kazakhstan, significantly strengthening the energy balance of the southern regions.

Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, emphasized that the project is an important part of the company’s strategy for a phased transition to low-carbon generation and the development of a modern energy system: "For Samruk-Energy, constructing this plant is not only an investment project but also a contribution to the country’s long-term sustainable development. We are confident that, together with our partners, we will deliver the facility to the highest standards of quality and reliability".
