Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, Kairat Maxutov, held a meeting with Chen Mili, General Director of China International Water & Electric Corp. (CWE).
The parties reviewed the current status and future prospects of their cooperation in hydropower development, including the potential construction of a pumped storage hydropower plant (PSHPP) in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Particular attention was given to project preparation, the enhancement of the regulatory framework, and potential approaches to structuring partnerships for projects of this nature.
Representatives of China International Water & Electric Corp. (CWE) reaffirmed their interest in further collaboration, highlighting Kazakhstan’s significant hydropower potential. They also emphasized the importance of ongoing initiatives aimed at improving the legislative framework and introducing viable investment return mechanisms. These measures are expected to enhance the bankability of such projects and support the development of a balanced partnership model aligned with the interests of all stakeholders and national regulatory requirements.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their commitment to continuing a constructive dialogue and jointly advancing work on an optimal project delivery framework.
