Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, met with a delegation from Mitsui & Co., Ltd. led by Tomoyuki Moriguchi, Deputy General Manager at the company’s Tokyo headquarters.
The discussions focused on potential cooperation in renewable energy, including the use of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), a bilateral framework between Japan and Kazakhstan for carbon crediting. The parties also explored opportunities in modernizing thermal power plants, deploying advanced Japanese technologies, digitalizing assets, and applying artificial intelligence solutions.
The meeting follows earlier discussions held in Tokyo in December 2025 during the official visit of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Japan.
“Kazakhstan continues to broaden its base of strategic partners, and the presence of Japanese businesses in our market is important to us. We hope today’s discussions will pave the way for joint projects,” Maxutov said.
Mitsui & Co., Ltd. is one of Japan’s leading diversified trading and investment companies and is listed in the Fortune Global 500. The company has extensive experience in industrial and infrastructure projects, technology and equipment exports, and project finance.
