Representatives of the Ombudsmen Council visited Moynak HPP and Alatau Zharyk Company

The Ombudsmen Council of Samruk-Kazyna JSC’s portfolio companies held an off-site meeting in Almaty region, attended by Nariman Akylov, Ombudsman of Samruk-Energy JSC. 

Council members visited Samruk-Energy JSC subsidiaries—Moynak HPP and AZhC, as as well as KEGOC JSC’s Almaty MPTL. They learned about electricity generation and transmission processes and met with company employees. 

Additionally, the ombudsmen attended a Forum on internal communications and procurement activities of  Samruk-Kazyna JSC group of companies. The forum discussed principles of professional workplace conduct, with a dedicated session on procurement processes and support for domestic producers. 

Over 40 new drinking fountains installed at APP production sites

Access to clean water is a key part of ensuring every employee’s well-being. Modern drinking fountains have now been installed across all of the company’s production facilities. Each unit is equipped with filters capable of purifying up to 5,000 tons of water. A new water supply system has also been implemented to provide workers with clean, safe drinking water.

"Before, getting drinking water meant a long walk. Now the fountains are just steps away. I drink around five liters a day—it's physical work, and staying hydrated is essential"- said Nurlan Suleiman, a mechanical fitter at the A. Zhakutov CHP-2 turbine shop.

This project is a strong example of how practical technical solutions can directly enhance the comfort and health of employees. For those working in the shops, these new drinking fountains have become a real lifeline during hot days and demanding shifts.

Samruk-Energy power plants successfully complete the heating season

"Samruk-Energy" JSC ensured uninterrupted electricity and heat supply throughout the 2024–2025 autumn-winter period and has successfully concluded the heating season. During this period, the company’s thermal power plants (TPPs) generated 18.6 billion kWh of electricity, while the amount of heat energy supplied reached 4.4 million Gcal. Throughout the entire heating season, the power stations operated in normal mode, adhering strictly to the temperature schedules for heat delivery.

As part of the 2024–2025 autumn-winter period (AWP), Unit No. 1 with a capacity of 500 MW was commissioned at Ekibastuz SSDPP-1, increasing the plant’s total installed capacity to 4,000 MW. This marked the first time in the last 30 years that the station transitioned to an eight-unit operational mode.

Compared to the same period of 2023–2024, electricity generation at Samruk-Energy’s plants increased by 4% during the current heating season. This growth was made possible, among other factors, by a significant reduction in the number of technological disruptions—demonstrating the effectiveness of ongoing maintenance efforts, equipment modernization, and improved operational practices.

Notably, at Ekibastuz CHP, which was transferred to "Samruk-Energy" JSC under trust management in June last year, timely repairs of several power boilers and auxiliary equipment ensured reliable and stable operation of the plant during the autumn-winter period.

The Almaty CHP-1, CHP-2, and CHP-3 also successfully completed the heating season, continuously supplying electricity and thermal energy to consumers in Almaty city and  Almaty region.

With the heating season concluded, Samruk-Energy’s plants have promptly begun preparations for the next autumn-winter period. Active repair work is already underway at energy facilities. A total of 114 repairs on 105 units of main equipment are scheduled for this year. The repair campaign will be conducted in accordance with the approved schedule, ensuring that all Samruk-Energy stations are fully prepared for the upcoming heating season.

 

Bogatyr Komir expands fleet with five high-tech dump trucks

"Bogatyr Komir" LLP continues its drive to modernize operations. The company’s technical fleet has grown with the addition of five new dump trucks, each with a payload capacity of 180 tons.

“The introduction of this advanced equipment, launched during the Year of Skilled Trades, will improve working conditions for our employees and increase the efficiency of our production processes. This is a significant contribution not only to our company but also to Kazakhstan’s coal industry as a whole”,-  said General Director Kairat Rgaiybek.

The new trucks will be operated by 20 experienced and highly skilled drivers from the Technological Transport Department. Among them is crew foreman Nurgali Shaizadinov, who expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and his team’s readiness to achieve outstanding results. The dump trucks will be deployed for overburden removal operations.

APP successfully concludes the 2024-2025 heating season

In line with the decree from Almaty city Akimat, the local governing authority, the 2024-2025 heating season, spanning 189 days, has officially concluded.

Throughout this period, Almaty Power Plants JSC (APP) ensured a consistent and uninterrupted supply of heat and electricity to customers in Almaty and the surrounding region.

From 2024 to 2025, APP generated 2.9 billion kWh of electricity and 4.8 million Gcal of thermal energy, fully meeting all contractual obligations.

“Reliability during the heating season is our top priority. Thanks to our team’s coordinated efforts and thorough preparation, we delivered a successful season, ensuring comfort for residents,” said Yerik Mashirov, Chairman of the Management Board of  APP JSC.

With the heating season complete, APP has kicked off its planned maintenance campaign. This includes upgrades to core and supporting equipment across its facilities: B. Orazbayev CHP-1, A. Zhakutov CHP-2, CHP-3, the Western Heat Complex, Sh. Chokin Kapshagay HPP, and the Cascade HPP. These improvements will strengthen system performance for the next autumn-winter period.

Occupational health and safety: a key priority at Samruk-Energy

"Samruk-Energy" JSC continues to make substantial progress in creating safe and healthy working environments across its operations.

The company’s subsidiaries have fully automated the process of pre-shift health screenings. This advancement enables real-time integration of medical data into the enterprise’s occupational safety systems, ensuring immediate response capabilities. The screening process is highly efficient, requiring approximately one minute per employee.

To enhance compliance with safety protocols, group companies have introduced smart helmets equipped with cameras, along with wearable video badges. These digital tools improve on-site monitoring and support a culture of accountability and situational awareness.

A systematic replacement of outdated fall protection equipment with modern five-point safety harnesses is also underway across the group. 

In addition, “Bogatyr Komir” LLP has begun deploying an anti-fatigue driver monitoring system across its fleet of large-capacity mining haul trucks. This technology is designed to detect signs of drowsiness or inattention and help prevent vehicle-related incidents linked to operator fatigue.

Furthermore, the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure is being implemented throughout the company’s facilities to ensure worker safety during maintenance and repair activities. This system prevents accidental equipment startup by physically isolating energy sources and clearly marking them with standardized warning signs.

Through these and other proactive initiatives, Samruk-Energy reaffirms its commitment to international best practices in occupational health and safety, and to fostering a safe, responsible, and productive workplace for all employees.

 

Samruk-Energy plans to commission 14.3 GW of new capacities by 2032

A meeting of the Public Council of "Samruk-Kazyna," JSC chaired by Bolat Zhamishev, was held to review the performance outcomes of "Samruk-Energy" JSC. The session was attended by the management teams from the Fund, “Samruk-Energy" JSC, deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, experts, and public figures.

"Samruk-Energy" JSC the country’s leading diversified energy holding, manages the full energy production cycle—from coal extraction to electricity distribution. It accounts for 32% of Kazakhstan’s installed power capacity and 42% of its coal output. The company comprises 25 subsidiaries and employs approximately 20,000 people.

Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of  "Samruk-Energy" JSC presented the company’s results for 2024. He emphasized that the Samruk-Energy group surpassed its electricity generation targets last year, with its subsidiaries producing 39.7 billion kWh—102% of the annual plan and an increase over 2023’s actual figures. For 2025, the company plans to boost electricity output to 40.9 billion kWh.

The 2024 repair campaign was fully executed, enabling a successful current heating season. Additionally, in late 2024, Unit 1 of the Ekibastuz SDPP-1 power plant was commissioned, raising the station’s capacity to 4,000 MW. For the first time in 30 years, the plant operated with all eight units online.

Maxutov detailed major investment projects aimed at advancing Kazakhstan’s energy infrastructure, ensuring energy security, and supporting economic growth. 

By 2032, "Samruk-Energy" JSC intends to commission 14.3 GW of new power capacities, accounting for 55% of the national plan for additional generation.

Regular occupational safety meeting held at "Samruk-Energy" JSC for Q1 2025 results

A regular meeting focused on occupational safety was held at "Samruk-Energy" JSC to review the outcomes of the first quarter of 2025. A major highlight was the achievement of zero workplace injuries during this period—the first time this has been recorded for a first quarter in the past five years. This milestone reflects the committed efforts of employees and management across the company’s operations to uphold top-tier safety standards.

However, the discussion also pinpointed areas requiring further attention, notably transportation safety and a growing number of sudden health incidents among workers. In response, Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of  "Samruk-Energy" JSC issued specific directives to bolster occupational safety measures across subsidiaries and affiliates.

Positive developments in several subsidiaries were also recognized. For their outstanding performance in occupational safety throughout 2024, Moynak and Shardarinsk Hydropower plants received certificates of recognition from the Chairman of the Board of  "Samruk-Energy" JSC. Additionally, “Alatau Zharyk Company” JSC was awarded the Winner’s Cup for securing first place in the "Best Enterprise in Occupational Safety" category. 

Olzhas Bektenov holds Republican meeting on energy development in Ekibastuz power plant territory

During his working trip to Pavlodar region Prime Minister checked the fulfilment of the President's instructions in the energy sector. In Ekibastuz Olzhas Bektenov got acquainted with the results of modernisation of the Power Plant-1, as well as the beginning of implementation of projects on reconstruction of the Power Plant-2 and construction of the Power Plant-3 on clean coal technology. A national meeting on the development of the industry against the backdrop of the growing needs of the economy, launch of new production facilities and active digitalisation was also held here.

The total installed capacity of Ekibastuz power plant, which includes Bulat Nurzhanov power plant-1 and Ekibastuz power plant-2, reaches 5 thousand MW, which makes Ekibastuz a strategically important centre of power generation. Overall, Pavlodar region generates over 40% of the country's electricity. As part of the modernisation of the Power Plant-1, Power Unit 1 with a capacity of 540 MW was restored and commissioned in December last year. In 2026-2028 it is planned to reconstruct the fuel supply system and build a new chimney. Additionally, the automation of processes, emission control and prevention of emergency situations were reported.

At the national meeting on energy development under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov considered key areas of the sector, including the introduction of new capacity, modernisation of infrastructure, issues of unification of electricity networks of the Western Zone with the Unified Electricity System of the country, energy efficiency, etc., the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov said. The reports were made by the Ministers of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov, Industry and Construction Yersaiyn Nagaspayev, the management of national companies Samruk-Energo JSC and KEGOC JSC, as well as akims of a number of regions.

There are 227 power plants in Kazakhstan. The average level of wear and tear of the stations' equipment reaches 56 per cent. At the end of last year, the volume of electricity generation increased by 4%. New capacities are expected to be commissioned through modernisation of existing plants and construction of new generating units. Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov reported that last year 771 MW of new capacities were commissioned, including the restoration of unit 1 at Ekibastuz power plant-1, replacement of turbine 6 at Atyrau CHPP, boiler 8 at the CHPP in Zhezkazgan, as well as alternative energy projects with a total capacity of 163 MW. 14 investment agreements have been concluded for modernisation, expansion, reconstruction and renewal of generating units with a total capacity of about 2 GW. It is planned to commission 621 MW this year and 2.6 GW in 2026. To cover the economy's power needs, 68 projects will be implemented until 2029. In general, it is planned to modernise, reconstruct and expand the existing plants for a total capacity of 4.2 GW by 2035.

In addition, the project on reconstruction of 220-500 kV overhead lines of KEGOC branches of Aktobe, Western, Sarbai inter-system power networks has been completed, under which the existing 24 power transmission lines with a total length of 2,000 kilometres, which have reached their normal service life, have been repaired. It was also reported on the progress of modernisation of Almaty CHP-2 and CHP-3.

Minister of Industry and Construction Yersaiyn Nagaspayev reported on work with the country's largest enterprises to reduce energy consumption and energy intensity of the economy. A number of implemented projects were named. Modernisation of pumping equipment at the enterprise KarCement reduced specific energy consumption by 15.4%. Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant overhauled electrolysers and insulated electric boilers, reducing electricity consumption by 4.5%. Aktobe Copper Company reduced electricity consumption by 2% by optimising the operation of gas piston units and adjusting the fuel mixture supply. Energy consumption in the public sector is also being monitored. As part of digitalisation, the State Energy Register is being transformed into a Unified Information System in the field of energy saving.

"The President called energy one of the key areas of building a self-sufficient and competitive country. It is a fundamental factor of sustainable progress in the new world, on which successful digitalisation and widespread introduction of artificial intelligence directly depend. And here, as the Head of State noted, Kazakhstan has huge opportunities. At the same time, untimely implementation of planned projects hinders the development of the economy. This is unacceptable. We need to work ahead of the curve. A number of major projects need electricity already now," Olzhas Bektenov emphasised.

Among the important projects are commissioning of modern coal-fired plants in Semey, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Kokshetau cities, construction of modern power plant-3 in Ekibastuz.

Following the results of the meeting a number of instructions were given. This year KEGOC should start construction and installation works on unification of electric networks of the Western zone with UES with completion of works in 2027. This project will increase the reliability of electricity supply to consumers. The Prime Minister emphasised the development of the coal chemical industry and instructed to actively use innovative technologies for coal processing to produce high value-added products.

"Qazaq Green Power" PLC and China Energy sign founding documents for solar power plant construction in the south of Kazakhstan

Aydan Kasymbekov, CEO of "Qazaq Green Power" PLC, and Wang Xianmei, Director of Investment at China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., have signed framework agreements to launch a major investment project—the construction of a solar power plant in the Turkestan Region. The signing ceremony was attended by Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of "Samruk-Energy" JSC and Lin Xiaodan, Chairman of the Board of China Energy.

Construction of the 300 MW solar power plant is scheduled to begin in September 2025, with commissioning expected by the end of 2026. This project marks a significant step forward in advancing Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sector, enhancing regional energy security, and supporting the country’s national decarbonization goals.

 

Nauryz celebrated at Samruk-Energy

Samruk-Energy hosted a festive event to celebrate the Spring Equinox, a symbol of nature’s renewal and the beginning of the new year. To mark the occasion, employees of the company wore traditional Kazakh attire, accessorized with jewelry in national style. A festive yurt, decorated with intricate patterns and traditional decorative items, was set up in the hall.

Kairat Maxutov, the Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy, warmly congratulated his colleagues on this special day, highlighting the significance of Nauryz as a symbol of spiritual renewal, the richness of Kazakh culture, and the traditions of the people.

A key moment in the celebration was the performance of the túsaukeser ceremony. In accordance with the ancient Kazakh custom, Kairat Maxutov untied the symbolic knot on the foot of the one-year-old daughter of one of the employees, offering blessings for a long and happy life.

The celebration continued with national songs and dances. An engaging quiz on Kazakh customs and traditions was organized for the employees, creating a lively atmosphere and bringing joy to all participants.

The event concluded with a master class on toǵyzqumalaq and asyk atu, timed to coincide with National Sports Day.
