Samruk-Energy and Qatar's Power International Holding sign agreement for joint project implementation

The Chairman of the Management Board of "Samruk-Energy" JSC Kairat Maxutov, and the President of the Power International Holding (PIH) Group, Ramez Al-Khayyat, have signed an agreement to jointly implement a project for the construction of a power plant based on a combined-cycle gas turbine.

The energy facility, with a planned capacity of 1,100 MW, is set to be built in the Kyzylorda region. The project aims to enhance the stability of Kazakhstan's unified energy system. Additionally, it will contribute to improving the environmental sustainability of the country's energy system, making it cleaner and more efficient.

During the signing ceremony, both parties highlighted the significant progress in developing their long-term partnership, which is built on mutual respect and trust. They also discussed the next steps for the joint implementation of this energy project.

Power International Holding is a Qatari conglomerate operating across various economic sectors. The company has successfully delivered approximately one thousand projects worldwide.

Chairman of Samruk-Energy takes part in the youth forum of the Company’s group

Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Management Board of  "Samruk-Energy" JSC opened the third Youth Forum for the company's employees. In his address to the participants, he emphasized that supporting and developing young talent is one of the company's top priorities.

"Our company is built on the principle of meritocracy. Leadership positions are filled by young professionals who demonstrate dedication and hard work in pursuit of our shared goals, based on their experience, knowledge, and capabilities. In conclusion, he wished the Youth Forum participants engaging discussions, productive collaboration, and the generation of new ideas and achievements. It is important to note that the Youth Forum has become a key platform for discussing important issues, exchanging ideas, and sharing experiences. The event involved 100 young employees from the head office and subsidiaries of Samruk-Energy. The forum was organized by the Human Resources Department.

Samruk-Energy and Urbacon to build a сombined сycle gas turbine power plant in Kazakhstan

Chairman of the Management Board of "Samruk-Energy" JSC Kairat Maxutov, and CEO of Urbacon Concessions Investment (UCC), Mehmet Arif Ozozan, discussed the current status of a project to construct the 1100 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in Kyzylorda region.

The project aims to introduce new flexible generation capacities in the southern zone of Kazakhstan's Unified Power System. It also includes the construction of new power transmission lines, contributing to the development of the country’s infrastructure.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed key aspects of the project, which is being implemented under the Agreement between the governments of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State of Qatar on establishing a long-term strategic partnership to develop projects in priority sectors.

The 2023 Annual report of "Samruk-Energy" JSC has received the highest rating — 5 stars and the distinction of "Highest Quality Annual Report" — in the RAEX ranking. Over 300 companies participated in the competition. An independent panel, comprising leading experts in corporate social responsibility and sustainable development, evaluated the annual reports based on the following criteria:

-Implementation of the company’s development strategy;

-Transparency and quality of information disclosure;

-Design and ease of material perception.

Samruk-Energy’s approach to corporate reporting was highly praised by independent experts for its transparency and comprehensiveness. The recognition of the report’s highest quality underscores the company’s leadership in corporate governance and serves as motivation for further development and strengthening of its dialogue with stakeholders.

 

Samruk-Energy team wins bronze at the 2024 Sports games

The athletes of Samruk-Energy team had a successful performance at the IX (Spartakiad) Sports Games of Samruk-Kazyna Group of Companies. Following the competition, Samruk-Energy team proudly claimed third place in the overall standings.

Gold medals were awarded to Ulyana Khataeva (swimming), Indira Baizhanova (arm wrestling), AZhC team (tug-of-war), and Symbat Tursynbek (Togyzkumalak – a traditional board game). Silver medals were won by Zhanat Sydykbaev, Duman Jumataev, and Kulshum Abdykalykova (asik atu – a Kazakh game involving bone shooting).

Third place was secured by Aibol Aytkul (Togyzkumalak), Yerkin Kurmanbaev, and Dinara Kubegenova (chess).

Notably, Indira Baizhanova became a five-time champion of the Sports Games among employees of Samruk-Kazyna JSC. Daniyar Omekov was recognized as the winner in the category "Best anchor".

 

 

The life of every employee is our priority – Samruk-Energy Chairman on workplace safety

The Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, Kairat Maxutov, held another meeting on health and safety at the workplace. The meeting was attended by the top executives of subsidiaries and affilates, as well as the heads of relevant structural departments.

"Workplace safety must always be a priority, with continuous oversight around the clock. It is essential to intensify efforts to raise the level of safety culture among both workers and managers," emphasized Kairat Maxutov.

In order to strengthen occupational safety measures, and at the direction of Samruk-Energy Chairman, scheduled inspections will be conducted at all subsidiaries and affiliates to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Based on the results, recommendations will be made to address any identified violations, and a corrective action plan will be developed.

 

Samruk-Energy and Ansaldo Energia discuss prospects for cooperation

The Chairman of the Management Board of “Samruk-Energy” JSC, Kairat Maxutov, held a meeting with the CEO of Ansaldo Energia, Fabrizio Fabbri. The parties discussed opportunities for further collaboration and partnership in the energy sector.

During the meeting, they explored the potential localization of key components for gas turbine units.This project aims to help Samruk-Energy reduce costs and enhance its technological independence.

Additionally, plans were outlined to establish a Competence Center in Almaty city, where specialists can receive advanced training in GTU maintenance and repair. This center will play a pivotal role in developing the energy sector's workforce potential.

The meeting also covered potential cooperation between Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications and the University of Genoa. This initiative aims to train world-class specialists capable of implementing advanced gas technologies and innovations in the country's energy sector.

 

 

Head of Samruk-Energy welcomes participants of the IX Sports tournament

The Chairman of the Management Board of “Samruk-Energy” JSC, Kairat Maxutov, welcomed the company's national team members who will compete in the Superfinal of the IX sports tournament among employees of “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC.

The Head of Samruk-Energy greeted the athlete-power engineers, emphasizing that the company would be represented by the best of the best at the annual Sports festival.

"Last year, our team delivered excellent results, securing an honorable second place in the overall team standings. This is a significant achievement. I hope that this year, too, you will perform well and achieve great success", said Kairat Maxutov.

At the end of the meeting, the Head of Samruk-Energy presented the company's flag to team captain Zhanat Amireshev and wished the athletes victory in the upcoming competition.

 

 

Samruk-Energy HR specialists successfully complete "C&B School" program

Four HR specialists from the head office and subsidiaries of “Samruk-Energy” JSC have successfully completed the modular professional development program "C&B School."  

The program graduates include Gulzhan Turzhanova (Head Office, Samruk-Energy JSC), Zhanar Adilbekova (Shulbinsk HPP), Zulfiya Boranbaeva (Ust-Kamenogorsk HPP), and Roza Kartaeva (Bogatyr Komir LLP).  

As part of the training, each participant developed a project focused on course topics. Following the project presentations, Gulzhan Turzhanova’s work on "Grading of subsidiaries and affiliates" was recognized as the best project.  

The "C&B School" program is designed for employees across “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC group of companies. Participants completed modules covering topics such as labor standards, the application of HR metrics, workforce planning tools, and more.  

 

 

Enhancing workplace safety culture

Representatives from the Health & Safety Young Workers Centre of “Samruk-Kazyna” visited the Ekibastuz SDPP-1 named after B. Nurzhanov. They toured the company’s production units and assessed the current state of occupational safety.

During the visit, the participants reviewed practical safety cases and discussed issues related to safety management. To conclude the meeting, Erzatkhan Ablaykhanov, Chairman of the Health & Safety Young Workers Centre, conducted a master class on workplace safety culture.

The Health & Safety Young Workers Centre was established to actively engage young specialists within the Samruk-Kazyna group of companies in occupational safety processes.

 

Samruk-Energy and China Energy sign Agreement for joint development of a renewable energy project

During the 29th Session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29), "Samruk-Energy" JSC and China Energy Overseas Investment signed an Agreement for the joint development of a renewable energy project with a total capacity of 800 MW.

The project entails the construction of a 500 MW wind power plant in Karaganda region and a 300 MW solar power plant in Turkestan region. The agreement formalizes the parties' commitment to advancing sustainable energy in Kazakhstan. The commissioning of the facilities is scheduled for 2028.

Previously, on July 2, 2024, a memorandum of understanding on renewable energy was signed between  “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC and China Energy Overseas Investment at the Kazakhstan-China Business Council in Astana.
