Head of Samruk-Energy visits Ansaldo Energia plant in Italy

Chairman of the Board of “Samruk-Energy” JSC, Kairat Maxutov, visited the Ansaldo Energia plant in Genoa, Italy, to observe the production process of gas turbines. In January of this year, during the President of Kazakhstan's visit to Italy, an agreement was signed with Ansaldo Energia for the supply of 2 sets of gas turbine units for the reconstruction of Almaty CHP-3. Deliveries of gas turbines and generators are planned for 2025.

During his official visit, the CEO of Samruk-Energy, Kairat Maxutov, held a meeting with the General Director of Ansaldo Energia S.p.A, Fabrizio Fabbri. The discussions revolved around collaboration in manufacturing high-tech energy equipment, localizing gas turbine production, and establishing service centers in Kazakhstan. These initiatives aim to foster favorable conditions for cost reduction of power equipment, knowledge sharing, and skill enhancement among Kazakhstani specialists.

Ansaldo Energia S.p.A is the largest energy company in Europe, specializing in the engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance of power station equipment.

TBEA ready to collaborate on projects with Samruk-Energy

Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of “Samruk-Energy” JSC, met with Zhang Xing, Chairman of the Chinese company TBEA, focusing on cooperation regarding energy projects.

During the meeting, Zhang Xing expressed TBEA's willingness to engage in joint projects encompassing conventional energy, renewable energy sources, and substation construction. He also shared insights into the company's achievements in reducing emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere and proposed sending TBEA experts to exchange knowledge with Kazakh specialists.

Following the dialogue, Samruk-Energy and TBEA reached an agreement to formalize their collaboration through the signing of a memorandum. This memorandum will facilitate joint exploration of coal gasification technology, efforts to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere, and the renovation of power plants.

For reference: TBEA is a Chinese electrical company specializing in the production of equipment and components for solar energy, as well as transformers and other electrical equipment.

Samruk-Energy сelebrates Nauryz Meiramy

Samruk-Energy joyously marked the arrival of spring and the renewal of nature by celebrating Nauryz Meiramy. Employees donned traditional Kazakh attire, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the nation. A festive dastarkhan, featuring an array of national dishes, was set up in the hall. Girls in traditional costumes treated event participants to the main dish of the celebration – nauryz-kozhe.

The performance by artists and the sounds of the dombra added a special atmosphere to the celebration. A competition among the employees tested their knowledge of national customs and traditions.

As part of the Nauryz Meiramy celebration, the 'Tusaukeser' ceremony was also conducted. Bekbas Orazbek Telbaevich, Chairman of the NGO 'Local Trade Union Samruk-Energy cut the lace that was tied around the baby's legs, offering him heartfelt wishes for a smooth and bright future ahead.

Kairat Maxutov instructed the heads of subsidiaries to enhance workplace safety measures

Kairat Maxutov, the Chairman of the Board of “Samruk-Energy" JSC has directed heads of subsidiary organizations to prioritize safe working conditions and strive for zero injuries. He underscored the importance of fostering an even stronger safety culture within the company.

In pursuit of these objectives, Samruk-Energy organized training sessions in 2023 for its employees in occupational safety services, drawing from international programs like NEBOSH, IOSH, and the "Safety Culture" course. Trainers who completed these programs are now sharing their expertise with colleagues, thereby enhancing the workforce's proficiency in safe practices.

Moreover, the "Safe Production" initiative has been rolled out across all subsidiary organizations of Samruk-Energy. The implementation of an information system has led to improved efficiency in occupational health and safety departments, reduced accident risks, and a decrease in workplace injuries.

In addition, proactive safety culture indicators have been integrated into all production units. This includes the introduction of behavioral safety audits, the implementation of a mechanism for employees to halt unsafe work (STOP card), and the promotion of collective responsibility.

"Intensifying efforts to ensure safe working conditions and taking proactive measures to prevent accidents among employees is crucial," noted Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of "Samruk-Energy" JSC.

Post-meeting, he outlined safety and occupational health objectives for 2024. These encompass further digitization of production processes, the adoption of smart helmets and chest cameras for operational staff, and the development of a unified standard for protective clothing tailored to the nuances of production.

CEO of Samruk-Energy conducts site meetings at Ekibastuz SDPP-1, Ekibastuz SDPP-2, and Bogatyr Komir

Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Energy, Kairat Maxutov, conducted on-site meetings at Ekibastuz SDPP-1, Ekibastuz SDPP-2, and Bogatyr Komir LLP.

During his visit, Maxutov inspected the progress of the restoration works on Unit 1 at Ekibastuz SDPP-1 and received updates on the performance during the autumn-winter period, as well as the modernization of Unit 3. Subsequently, he chaired another meeting of Samruk-Energy's Investment and Innovation Council to discuss the reconstruction and modernization of the fuel supply production complex.

At Ekibastuz SDPP-2, Maxutov was briefed on the progress of the autumn and winter period (AWP). The heating season at both Ekibastuz SDPP-1 and Ekibastuz SDPP-2 is proceeding smoothly, with surplus fuel reserves. Discussions during the meeting covered planned repair works for 2024 and the progress of the project to expand and reconstruct ESDPP-2 plant with the installation of third and fourth generating units.

At Bogatyr Komir LLP, Maxutov received updates on the implementation of projects for cyclic-flow coal mining technology and cyclic-flow overburden complex. Additionally, discussions focused on the future development of coal sales markets.

Women Energy Veterans Celebrated on International Women's Day at Samruk-Energy's subsidiaries

On the eve of International Women's Day, employees from subsidiaries of "Samruk-Energy" JSC took a heartwarming initiative under the guidance of Chairman of the Board, Kairat Maxutov, to extend their heartfelt greetings to women veterans of the energy sector.

Representatives from the company group expressed profound gratitude to these veterans who dedicated their entire careers to shaping a brighter future for our nation. Among these admirable women were Ryblenkova Karashash Abdarovna and Makhmetova Gulsum Kaztaevna, both of whom served Bogatyr Komir for over 40 years and earned the esteemed title of "Honored employee of the coal industry".

Now in retirement, Karashash Abdarovna and Gulsum Kaztaevna are devoted to nurturing their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In recognition of their lifelong contributions, employees of Bogatyr Komir presented these esteemed energy veterans with heartfelt letters of appreciation and meaningful gifts on behalf of Samruk-Energy.

As the holiday approached, employees from "APP" JSC paid visits to retired women whose dedicated work formed an integral part of the company's history. Nesterenko Tatyana Fedorovna, with over 40 years of service in the energy sector, exemplified unwavering commitment to her craft. Kulmuratova Lyazzat Kulmakhanovna, who served as a pass office duty officer at the Kapshagay HPP named after Sh. Chokin, and Kasymbalinova Kyrmyzy Duysenovna, who dedicated her years to the fuel supply department at "APP" JSC are among these distinguished retirees. Bondareva Elena Stepanovna, remembered fondly as "the star" by her colleagues, served as the head of the logistics department, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and dedication. Overall, on the eve of March 8th, approximately 500 retired women from “APP” JSC received heartfelt holiday greetings and monetary rewards.

"Alatau Zharyk Company" JSC and "Ekibastuz SDPP-1" LLP also joined in to honor deserving women veterans, recognizing their enduring contributions to the energy sector's advancement.

The women veterans of Ekibastuz SDPP-2 received special attention as well. The company's management and youthful advocates made heartfelt visits to retired energy professionals, expressing gratitude for their invaluable contributions to the station's growth. Gaukhar Nugmanova, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors for General and Social Affairs, personally presented gifts to these esteemed veterans, extending warm appreciation for their significant role in shaping the station's legacy.

Edil Kopenov, General Director of "AlmatyEnergoSbyt" LLP invited to a celebratory event where women veterans were honored and congratulated on the occasion of International Women's Day. The meeting took place in a warm and pleasant atmosphere.

Samruk-Energy signs agreement with International Corporation for construction of Kazakhstan's first PSHPP

 Chairman of the Management Board of "Samruk-Energy" JSC,  Kairat Maxutov, and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of China International Water and Electric Corporation (CIWE), Shi Intao, have signed a cooperation agreement for the construction of the first pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant (PSHPP) in Kazakhstan. The parties have agreed to collaborate on the project's development and implementation.

Specifically, China International Water and Electric Corporation plans to conduct a comprehensive technical and economic assessment of the project, including an analysis of Kazakhstan's hydroelectric potential. Furthermore, Chinese experts have offered to share their expertise in implementing hydroelectric projects and to provide support for the construction of the country's first PSHPP.

Previously, China International Water and Electric Corporation was involved in constructing Moynak Hydropower Plant, the largest hydroelectric station in Southern Kazakhstan. The agreement signed by both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further collaboration and strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships to execute a groundbreaking project in the country's energy sector.

It's important to note that a pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant (PSHPP) is designed to even out the daily fluctuations in electricity demand. It's crucial for both generating and storing electricity, ensuring uninterrupted power supply even during peak demand periods and extreme conditions.

The Chairman of the Board of “Samruk-Energy” JSC, Kairat Maxutov, participated in an extended board meeting of the Ministry of Energy, which was attended by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Roman Sklyar.

During the meeting, Maxutov provided a comprehensive report highlighting the company's  achieved production figures and implementation of investment projects throughout 2023.

Regarding the ongoing winter heating period, Maxutov assured that Samruk-Energy's power plants are operating smoothly, with an ample supply of fuel ensuring uninterrupted energy provision.

Furthermore, Maxutov outlined the company's plans for 2024, which include the execution of various investment projects aimed at enhancing the company's infrastructure and services.

Samruk-Energy is actively collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and receiving substantial support from the Government to streamline legislation within the power industry.

In 2023, significant amendments to laws and regulations were enacted, facilitating the expedited implementation of priority investment projects. Maxutov emphasized that efforts to refine legislation will persist throughout the current year.

Anti-corruption training seminar conducted at "Samruk-Energy" JSC

A compliance training seminar "Combatting corruption in the quasi-governmental sector" was held at "Samruk-Energy" JSC. The company's management team participated in the session with employees from various departments and subsidiaries joining online.

The speaker was Miras Kargabay, the head of the Department at the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Combating Corruption. He provided the participants of the seminar with insights into ongoing anti-corruption reforms and advancements.

Throughout the seminar, discussions centered on preventive measures, tactics for curbing corrupt activities, and the initiatives undertaken to combat bribery.

Regarding the investigation at Ekibastuz GRES-2

In several media sources, information has been published regarding the Prosecutor's Office of Pavlodar region uncovering instances of misuse of funds intended for the expansion and reconstruction of thermal power plant GRES-2 including the installation of a third power unit. The prosecutorial investigation commenced in December 2023, covering the operations of "Ekibastuz GRES-2 Station" from 2010 onwards.

Currently, the investigation is ongoing, so final conclusions regarding any damages or misappropriation can only be made once the investigation is complete and the relevant legal procedures are enacted.

“AlES” JSC management updates Samruk-Kazyna Fund Head on CHP-2 modernization progress

Today, Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC, visited CHP-2 of “AlES” JSC as part of a working visit. During the station visit, the Head of the Fund was accompanied by Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of “Samruk-Energy” JSC. Yerik Mashirov, the head of “AlES” JSC, briefed the Head of the Fund on navigating through the autumn-winter period and presented a comprehensive report on the company's operations for 2023, along with plans for the current year.

During the visit, Erik Kanyshbekovich updated the Head of the Fund on the progress of the Almaty CHP-2 modernization project, aimed at reducing emissions of harmful substances while ensuring the reliability and efficiency of energy supply. The reduction in emissions is achieved through the conversion of CHP-2 to firing natural gas.

Currently, preparatory work for the project, including geological surveys and well drilling, is underway. The construction is scheduled for completion by December 2026.

It's worth noting that on May 31, 2023, an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract was signed for the CHP-2 project between “AlES” JSC and a consortium comprising Dongfang Electric International Corporation, PowerChina Sepco1 Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd, and PowerChina Hebei Electric Power Engineering Co. The consortium comprises a collaboration of companies, with the first being a significant producer of industrial equipment, the second possessing expertise in projects under EPC conditions, and the third specializing in engineering.
