During the state visit of the President of the Republic of Korea to Kazakhstan, “Samruk-Energy” JSC signed a memorandum of understanding with Doosan Enerbility and KEPCO Plant Service and Engineering at the Kazakh-Korean business forum.
The memorandum outlines the parties' intentions to collaborate on projects aimed at cleaning flue gases at Ekibastuz SDPP-1, Ekibastuz SDPP-2, and Almaty Power Plants.
Doosan Enerbility, a South Korean company, specializes in the construction of nuclear power plants, and the production of thermal power plants, turbines, generators, and desalination plants.
KEPCO Plant Service and Engineering, a subsidiary of KEPCO, offers comprehensive solutions for energy enterprises, including diagnostics and performance improvement, as well as the operation and maintenance of power plants.
Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Fund's Management Board, met with Sergey Dregval, CEO of PJSC Inter RAO.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the timelines for the construction projects of three combined heat and power plants (CHPs) in Kazakhstan, located in Kokshetau, Semey, and Ust-Kamenogorsk. They also explored ways to expedite the completion of these facilities.
These projects are being implemented under an intergovernmental agreement between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, which was signed on April 17, 2024.
PJSC Inter RAO is an energy company managing assets in Russia as well as in Europe and CIS countries. Its activities include the production and sale of electricity and heat, international energy trading, engineering, and the design and construction of energy facilities.
The 64th meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States Electric Power Council (CIS EPC) took place in St. Petersburg, aligned with the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The CIS EPC primarily focuses on establishing a unified legal framework for electric power among CIS member states, aiming to enhance and develop regulatory standards.
The objective of the CIS EPC is to promote collaborative and coordinated efforts among CIS member states in the electric power sector. This collaboration is crucial to ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for both the economies and populations of the member states, facilitated by the effective integration of their electric power systems.
Key attendees included Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Satkaliyev A.M., Russia's Minister of Energy Tsivilev S.E., various Ministers and Deputy Ministers from CIS countries, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC Samruk-Energy Maxutov K.B., Chairman of the CIS EPC Executive Committee Kupchikov T.V., CIS Deputy Secretary General Trefilov D.A., and representatives from Inter RAO, Rosatom, RusHydro, among others.
The meeting addressed the election of the President of the CIS Electric Power Council and featured thematic reports on several critical and relevant topics, including:
- Modern trends in power industry and the benefits of integration, highlighting industrial potential.
- Current developments in energy supply for large cities and urban agglomerations.
- The potential of nuclear energy in meeting climate commitments of countries and companies, and the advancement of production chains.
- Research on the absorption capacity of hydroelectric power station reservoirs, and the implementation of the STO organization standard "System for assessing the compliance of operated hydropower facilities with sustainable development criteria" across CIS countries.
- Identification, assessment, and adaptation measures for climate risks.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants endorsed the decision to convene the next 65th meeting of the CIS EPC in December 2024.
Employees of "APP" JSC successfully completed the marathon and secured top positions at the Charity Samruk Marathon 2024. Deputy Chairman of the Management Board and Chief Engineer of “APP” JSC Gaziy Ismukhambetov, secured 1st place in the 10 km race for the 50+ age category.
Bekzat Kalelov, an electrician from CHP-1 of “APP” JSC also performed remarkably finishing 2nd in the 10 km race for the 18-29 age category.
The marathon saw the participation of around 1,200 runners, with the majority being employees from “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC Group of Companies.
The strategic session on occupational safety culture was inaugurated by the Managing Director for Corporate Governance, Social and Labor Relations, and Occupational Safety at Samruk-Kazyna, Gibrat Auganov. In his opening speech, he highlighted that the event aims to draw special attention to workplace safety issues and increase the responsibility of executives.
"We must achieve the highest quality improvements in occupational safety. I hope this strategic session will be beneficial for the participants, and through our joint efforts, we can reduce workplace accidents to zero", said Gibrat Auganov.
Samruk-Energy’s Chairman of the Board, Kairat Maxutov, welcomed the participants of the strategic session, emphasizing that workplace safety is paramount and it is important to adhere to the principles of Vision Zero.
"Our primary task is to make occupational safety the number one priority and become leaders in achieving it. During the session, we will work on creating our common vision of a safety culture. We must have a clear idea of how we want to see our company in terms of occupational safety in the coming years", stressed Kairat Maxutov.
The strategic session will last for two days. During the event, participants will learn about best global practices in ensuring occupational safety, discuss issues related to building an effective safety culture, and involve management and employees in the process of change.
Representatives of "Ekibastuz SDPP-2" JSC held an off-site meeting at Toraygyrov University.
The meeting was joined by professors and students from departments like electrical engineering, thermal engineering, and more. They talked about student internships, future job opportunities, and programs designed to train young professionals in specific career paths.
"Our collaboration with the university is geared towards boosting the standard and quality of training for future professionals to work in power industry", noted Kairosh Akhmetov, Head of Human Resources at Ekibastuz SDPP-2.
The cooperation between the power station and the university provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain practical experience and develop skills that are in demand in the labor market.
Following the meeting, plans for bilateral cooperation between Ekibastuz SDPP-2 and the university have been outlined.
Gaziy Ismukhambetov, Isakhan Syrgabaev, Vladimir Shmelev, and Renat Zhanguttin began their careers at Almaty CHP-2 and CHP-1 and became symbols of dedication and professionalism in the energy sector.
Energy sector veterans shared memories of their career paths. Working in the energy sector was not just a profession for them but a way of life.
Ismukhambetov Gaziy Zhumabayevich began his career at Almaty CHP-2 in 1986. Here, he climbed the career ladder from a duty electrician to a shift chief at the station. From 2002 to 2007, Gaziy Zhumabayevich worked in the central dispatch service of JSC "APK". Then he worked as deputy chief engineer, production manager - chief engineer, deputy chairman of the board for production of “Almaty Power Plants” JSC ("APP").
Syrgabaev Isakhan Aktanovich started his career at CHP-2, where he worked as a boiler workshop fitter. He progressed from a mill operator to a deputy head of the boiler workshop. He was the chief engineer of Almaty CHP-2. He worked as Managing Director of CHP-1 and Managing Director of WHC.
Shmelev Vladimir Georgievich started as an electrician at CHP-1. He was a senior shift chief at the station, head of the boiler workshop, deputy chief engineer at CHP-1. He worked as head of the department of technical research and analysis of "APK” JSC, operation and repair management. Since 2013, he held the position of deputy chief engineer of "APP" JSC.
Zhanguttin Renat Naumkhanovich worked as an electrician at Almaty CHP-2 after graduating from Almaty Power Engineering Institute. Then he became the head of shift of the electric workshop, of the station, and the chief dispatcher of the Central Dispatching Service "APK" JSC. Since 2008, Renat Naumkhanovich has been a department head.
At the solemn ceremony, colleagues and executives expressed gratitude to the veterans for their invaluable contribution to the development of Almaty Power Plants and the country's energy sector as a whole.
A professional competition among electrician teams for the maintenance and repair of power grids has begun at “Alatau Zharyk Company” JSC. Seven teams are participating, including the 35 kV and above transmission lines department, Konaev Electrical Grid Area (EGA), Raimbek, Balkhash, Uyghur, Yesik, and Zhambyl EGAs.
The competition was officially launched by Abay Asylov, Chairman of the Board of “Alatau Zharyk Company” JSC. He welcomed the participants and wished them success and victory.
Over the course of three days, the participants will go through seven stages. The first stage involves checking the teams' equipment, documentation, tools, devices, and innovations used in their daily work. In the subsequent stages, the teams' professional knowledge will be tested.
The annual electricians' competition aims to improve the qualifications of specialists and enables power engineers to sharpen their skills while exchanging experiences with colleagues from various districts within the region.
Samruk-Green Energy, a subsidiary of “Samruk-Energy” JSC, has successfully launched the issuance and sale of I-REC certificates, an international standard. Over 12,000 green certificates have already been sold, indicating a growing demand in both domestic and international markets.
I-REC certificates are internationally recognized documents that provide evidence that electricity has been generated using renewable energy sources (RES). The acquisition of such certificates is becoming increasingly popular among companies seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutrality.
"The issuance of I-REC certificates of international standard is a significant step in our company's commitment to the principles of sustainable development and environmental responsibility. I-REC certificates are recognized in over 50 countries worldwide and serve as an additional incentive for attracting investments and implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) strategies. Now domestic RES facilities can generate additional income through the certification of the energy they produce, while companies can actively implement sustainable development principles in practice," noted Kairat Maxutov, “Samruk-Energy” JSC Chairman of the Board.
