Kopenov Yedil Kudaibergenovich was born in 1970 in Almaty region.

He graduated from the Kazakh Pedagogical University named after Abay in 1994 with a major in History, in 2002 the University named after D.A. Kunaev with major in "Finance and Credit" and in 2011 Kazakh Agrotechnical University named after S. Seifullin with a major in Electrical Engineering.

He began his career in 1992 as a manager of commercial department, then as a commercial director at “Aziyatorgservis” company.

Yertaev Yerzhan Yerbolovich was born in 1985 in the Pavlodar region.

He graduated from the Pavlodar Innovative Eurasian University in 2008 with a major in “Industrial Thermal Power Engineering” and in 2012 with a major in Law.

He started his career in 2006. In 2009, he commenced work in the public sector as the chief specialist of the energy and public utilities department of the Pavlodar region.

From 2013 to 2014, he worked as the chief expert, then the head of the accreditation department of the Committee for State Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 2015, he was appointed Head of the Accreditation Department of the Committee for Nuclear and Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 2015 to 2017, he headed the territorial department of the Committee for Nuclear and Energy Supervision and Control under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the Akmola region.

From 2017 to 2018 - head of the territorial department for the Karaganda region. Prior to his new appointment, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Nuclear and Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Last position: Chief of Staff of the Chairman of “Samruk-Energy” JSC Management Board.

Traditionally, the “Workers’ Memorial Day” - the International Day of Remembrance of People who Died or were Injured at Work is celebrated all over the world on April 28. According to the International Labor Organization, about 6,000 people die in the workplace every day in the world, and this figure increases approximately by 10% annually.

The topic of the 2022 Workers’ Memorial Day is “Act Together to Build a Positive Safety and Health Culture”. In view of this, “joint efforts” mean the responsibility and participation of each employee in the formation of safe working conditions.

The issues of improving the health, safety and environment system (hereinafter - HSE) are of the highest priority for me personally and for the Fund as a whole. A person’s life was and remains the main value. All employees of the Fund Group, without exception, must return home to their families unharmed.

Samruk-Kazyna JSC has announced the current year as the “Year of Safety and Labor Protection”. Each of us should think about personal contribution and participation in improving the HSE system, set specific goals that contribute to achieving a high level of prevention of accidents and injuries in the workplace.

Over three years, the Fund’s Group of Companies has carried out significant work in the field of HSE. In 2021, the number of the injured decreased by 36% as compared to 2019. But we are still far from positive targets. We expect all employees of the Fund Group to increase their personal commitment to occupational safety and health issues. To do this, it is necessary to transform the culture of thinking and create a high team spirit.

To build a positive HSE culture, the employees should:

All these efforts should be supported by modern digital solutions. This is the only way we can achieve a tangible risk reduction.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated on April 28 at the initiative of the International Labor Organization (ILO) to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally.

Every year on this day, the world celebrates the day for safety and health at work. It also has a second name - World Day for Maintenance of Health of Workers at Work. This day has gone down in history since 2003. And its creation was preceded by the Commemoration Day for Dead and Injured Workers, which was held in America and Canada (1989) as a tribute to the memory of the dead or bad injured workers on the job.

The theme of the World Day in 2022, announced by the ILO is “Act together to build a positive safety and health culture”, where its main theme is importance of social dialogue towards a culture of safety and health.

A positive safety culture is built on engagement, meaning the active participation of all parties in the continuous improvement of safety. At an environment with high safety culture, workers are not shy about expressing concerns about possible threats to their safety and health or occupational risks, and management takes the initiative to work with workers to find reasonable, effective, and reliable solutions to emerging problems. An open exchange of information and a dialogue built on trust and mutual respect is essential.

Various events, competitions are held at “Samruk-Energy” JSC and its subsidiaries and affiliates on this day, as well as campaigns like the month of occupational health and safety have been announced.

In accordance with the instructions of Satkaliyev A.M., the Chairman of the Board of “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC, the 2022 year was declared the “Year of occupational health and safety” at the group of the Fund’s portfolio companies.

To pursue the course adopted by the Fund, “Samruk-Energy” JSC Occupational Safety and Health Department continues cooperation within the scope of a memorandum in occupational health and safety concluded with “Eurasian Group” LLP.

In this vein, structural units in charge of OSH issues at “AlES” JSC, “AZhC” JSC, “ESDPP-2” JSC,  “ESDPP-1” LLP, “Bogatyr Komir” LLP, “Moynak HPP” JSC and “Shardarinsk HPP” JSC, made a study visit to the Pavlodar aluminum smelter, one of the subsidiaries of “ERG” LLP.

The main production workshops, a training area, a video monitoring center, a protective clothing showroom, etc. were visited during the acquaintance.

After getting acquainted with the structural units of the plant, the parties discussed occupational health and safety issues, the organization and operation of an occupational health system, and the investigation of accidents and incidents. “ERG” LLP employees highly rated the opportunity to exchange experience, share opinions in OSH, and expressed their willingness to continue cooperation.

Participants of the activity stated an opinion on the role of the memorandum as one of the key driving forces for preventing occupational injuries.

A new 60 MW wind power plant, which is being built 140 km away from Almaty city, is planned to be put into operation by early August this year. The plant will produce 225,7 mln.kWh of electricity annually. Besides its production characteristics, the project is essential for the region from the perspective of its environmental component. The construction and launch of the wind power plant will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 206 thousand tons and will also replace about 89 thousand tons of reference fuel per year.

The energy facility is being constructed in the Enbekshikazakh district of Almaty region in the so-called Shelek corridor - a unique region for the development of renewable energy capacity, where the average annual wind speed at a height of 50 meters is 7,8 m/s, the flux density is 310 W/m2. The WPP capacity is planned to be increased up to 300 MW in the future.

The project is worth 37,4 bn. tenge and it involves the construction of 24 wind turbines, each with a nominal capacity of 2,5 MW, substations, overhead power lines, and related infrastructure. The main equipment of the plant is manufactured by GoldWind. Kazakhstani power holding company “Samruk-Energy” JSC is implementing the project in partnership with the Chinese corporation “Power China”.

According to Samruk-Energy experts, despite the energy capacities operating in Almaty city and Almaty region such as Almaty CHP, Kapshagay, and Almaty Cascade of HPPs, Zhambyl GRES, as well as Issyk, Moynak, Kataral, Taldykorgan HPPs, the region experiences power shortages and does not have sufficient own fuel resources. Due to scarce generating capacities, own energy sources cover the region's demand for electricity only by 50%. External energy producers (from the northern regions of the republic, Zhambyl GRES, and Kyrgyzstan) compensate for the energy shortfall.  These factors, as well as the presence in the region of a good resource base of renewable energy sources, served as the basis for the implementation of “Samruk-Energy” project for the construction of a 60 MW wind power plant in the Shelek corridor.

To date, 5 renewable energy facilities operate at “Samruk-Energy” JSC. Their total electricity output in 2021 was 325,3 mln. kWh. This is 7,7% of electricity generated by all renewable energy facilities in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The company strongly supports the initiative on the development of renewable energy sources. As part of the concept of Kazakhstan's transition to a "green economy", the Power holding company strives to increase the share of electricity generation from renewable energy sources, which are already active participants in the electricity market.

By this time, in addition to the WPP in the Almaty region, Samruk-Energy is implementing a project for the construction of a 50 MW WPP in the vicinity of Ereymentau city, Akmola region.

Electricity generation by “Samruk-Energy” JSC energy-producing organizations over the past year increased by 13.5 percent compared to 2020, amounting to 35 609,3 mln.kWh. This is stated in the Report including an Analysis of the Electricity and Coal Market in Kazakhstan for January-December 2021 posted on the company's website.

In general, according to the analysis, according to the data from System Operator, all power plants of the Republic of Kazakhstan generated 114 447,9 mln. kWh of electricity in 2021, which is 5.8% more than in 2020. The growth in a generation was observed in all zones of the Unified Energy System of Kazakhstan.

At the same time, in 2021, there was a 6% increase in the dynamics of electricity consumption of the republic in comparison with 2020 figures. So, in the northern zone of the republic, consumption increased by 5%, in the southern zone by 9%, and in the western zone by 7%.

111 742,4 thous. tons of hard coal was mined in 2021, which is 2.3% more than in 2020 (109 227,6 thous. tons).

           “Bogatyr Komir” LLP, a coal mining company in the structure of “Samruk-Energy” JSC power holding company, produced 44 632 thous. tons in  2021, which is 0.5% more than in 2020 (44 436 thous. tons). At the same time, in 2021, “Bogatyr Komir” LLP sold 44 848 thous. tons of coal, of which 34 939 thous. tons were sent to the domestic market, and 9 802 thous. tons were exported (RF). The 2021 figures demonstrate an increase in coal sales at “Samruk-Energy” JSC by 2,5% in comparison with 2020.

Market analysis shows that electricity generation by RE facilities (SPP, WPP, BGS, small HPPs) of the RK for 2021 amounted to 4 220,3 mln. kWh. The increase was 30,1% compared to 2020

On November 25, “Samruk-Energy” JSC with the assistance of the Green Finance Center, made a debut placement of green bonds in the trading system of “Astana” International Financial Center’s stock exchange - Astana International Exchange with a coupon rate of 11,4% per annum and a circulation period of 6 (six) years and 6 (six) months.

Proceeds from placement will be used to finance green viable projects that comply with International Capital Markets Association (ICMA) Green Bond Principles (GBP).

Various activities are planned to reduce the net carbon footprint and increase the share of clean energy, they are introduction of ESG principles, construction of renewable energy facilities, the transfer of part of the Company's assets to gas, the use of  best available technologies in carbon capture and storage, accumulation, digitization and improving energy efficiency.

We would like to remind that over January-December 2020 electricity production by “Samruk-Energy” JSC RE facilities (SPP, WPP, small HPP) amounted to 335.8 mln. kWh or 10.8% of the total electricity generated by all RES facilities in Kazakhstan. Currently, the company is working on projects related to "green" energy, including  construction of 60 and 50 MW wind power plants in Almaty and Akmola regions, counter-regulating 40 MW Kerbulak HPP on the Ili River.
