Samruk-Energy Internship Program: From Almaty to Genoa

Four students from the G.Daukeyev Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications (AUPET) completed an internship at the University of Genoa (Italy) with the support of Samruk-Energy JSC. The participants included Elvira Zhanibekova, Alnur Zinelgabiden, Nurdaulet Makhsot, and Serik Sandibek.

The internship was implemented within the framework of the strategic partnership between Almaty Power Plants JSC (APP JSC) and AUPET, aimed at training qualified professionals for the energy sector. Upon completion of their studies at the university, the participants will work at APP power plants. 

As part of the program, the students took courses related to the design and operation of gas turbine units. They also completed industrial training at Ansaldo Energia, a leading global company in the energy sector.

“At the University of Genoa, we studied subjects related to gas turbine units, their structure, operating principles, and current trends in the energy industry. This knowledge broadens our professional outlook and helps us apply modern approaches in the power sector”,- the students shared. “We gained valuable experience by combining practical training at a domestic power company with education at a leading European university. This experience will contribute to our professional growth and the development of competencies needed for Kazakhstan’s energy industry”.

“Studying at the University of Genoa is a great opportunity to learn about advanced energy technologies and exchange experience with international students”,- noted Serik Sandibek. “I am very glad to be part of this program.”

Alnur Zinelgabiden added: “Studying in Italy is not only about new knowledge, but also a major life experience. We learned about up-to-date approaches to gas turbine operations and visited laboratories”.

 

Samruk-Energy and Energy China begin construction of Kazakhstan’s largest solar power plant

Samruk-Energy JSC, in partnership with Chinese company Energy China, has launched construction of a 300 MW solar power plant with an energy storage system in the Turkestan region.

During a ceremonial event today, a time capsule was placed to symbolize the official start of the future power plant. This project represents one of the company’s key initiatives in renewable energy, aimed at modernizing the national energy sector and enhancing the reliability of electricity supply in Kazakhstan’s southern regions.

The event was attended by Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC; executives from Energy China; H.E. Han Chunlin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kazakhstan; and the regional leadership of Turkestan.

On-site, the official commencement of construction was marked by Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Energy JSC; Lin Xiao Dan, Chairman of the Board of China Energy Overseas Investment Company; and Nuralhan Kusherov, Mayor of Turkestan region.

The project forms part of Samruk-Energy’s broader program to expand its green generation portfolio. Innovative technologies will be implemented, including next-generation photovoltaic panels with solar tracking mechanisms and energy storage systems, ensuring stable power generation and enhanced transmission efficiency to the grid.

The project is expected to create new jobs, attract investment to the region, and stimulate infrastructure development. Once completed, the solar power plant will be among the largest in Kazakhstan, significantly strengthening the energy balance of the southern regions.

Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, emphasized that the project is an important part of the company’s strategy for a phased transition to low-carbon generation and the development of a modern energy system: "For Samruk-Energy, constructing this plant is not only an investment project but also a contribution to the country’s long-term sustainable development. Samruk-Energy holds the meeting of corporate governance and sustainability experts

Samruk-Energy JSC held its annual strategic meeting of corporate governance, sustainability, and ESG specialists from across the group of companies.

The event served as a key professional platform for reviewing the outcomes of 2025 and setting priorities for 2026.

Opening the meeting, Nurlan Zhaparkhanov, Managing Director for Legal Support and Asset Management, emphasized the importance of systematic collaboration within Samruk-Energy group, sharing best practices, and enhancing the quality of management processes.

The meeting set the tone for a constructive dialogue, during which common priorities for the coming year were defined and the Group’s commitment to the principles of responsible governance and sustainable growth was reaffirmed.

Discussions focused on occupational health and safety, talent development, increasing environmental responsibility, and further improving corporate processes.

At the conclusion of the meeting, specialists outlined joint initiatives for 2026 aimed at enhancing operational resilience, strengthening inter-company collaboration, and implementing modern management approaches.

Samruk-Energy JSC has been awarded a gold statuette at the prestigious 2025 MarCom Awards for its 2024 Annual report in the category Publications | Annual Report | Government. The award recognizes the company’s excellence in corporate communications, transparency, and the quality of disclosed information, acknowledged at the international level.

The MarCom Awards, organized by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), is one of the oldest and most respected competitions in the field of marketing and communications materials. Since its inception in 2004, it has attracted thousands of entries from dozens of countries each year, evaluating creativity, strategy, content, and visual execution of projects.

Samruk-Energy awarded 5 stars in prestigious RAEX annual reports ranking

Samruk-Energy JSC has received the highest rating — 5 stars — in the 2025 Annual Reports Ranking of companies, published by the international rating agency RAEX.

This top rating is awarded to reports demonstrating the highest level of disclosure quality and transparency, reflecting the company’s strong corporate governance and openness. Among 393 participating organizations, all reports were evaluated by RAEX based on key criteria, including strategic content, transparency, and the quality of presentation.

Samruk-Energy will continue to develop systematically, enhancing the quality of corporate reporting, expanding ESG disclosures, and increasing transparency in line with the best international sustainable development practices. Employee of Ekibastuz SDPP-2 wins “Best Innovator – 2025” competition

Samruk-Kazyna JSC summed up the results of the “Best innovative company – 2025” competition. In the Best innovator” category, the winner was an employee of Ekibastuz SDPP-2, Dmitry Martynenko, head of the electrical shop laboratory.

Between 2023 and 2025, he implemented 18 technical improvement initiatives that enhanced equipment reliability and streamlined work processes for plant personnel. These include:

       use of the “Viratron” software suite to record vector diagrams during the start-up tests of units No. 1 and No. 2 after overhaul;
       • introduction of automation for completing daily electrical shop reports;
      
modifications to the signaling scheme for the status of the 500 kV outdoor switchyard circuit breakers;
      
integration of electrical parameters of auxiliary transformers 01T, 02T, and 10T into the OIK-Dispatcher system;
      
modernization of the control scheme for compressor No. 2 of the BVS-ORU (auxiliary systems block of the outdoor switchgear);
       • and other improvements aimed at increasing functionality and enhancing operational responsiveness.

Dmitry Martynenko’s initiatives make a significant contribution to improving the efficiency of operating processes at the plant.

Occupational health and safety meeting

Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, held a reporting meeting focused on occupational health and safety, attended by the top executives of the group’s subsidiaries and affiliates.

During the meeting, Duysenbek Shardarbekov, Director of the Occupational Health Department, presented a report on the implementation of the occupational safety action plan of Samruk-Kazyna JSC and provided an update on the current state of health and safety across the group’s enterprises.

Additionally, reports were heard from the top executives of Bogatyr Komir LLP, Ekibastuz SDPP-1 LLP, and Ekibastuz SDPP-2 JSC, with discussions centered on improving occupational safety standards and preventing workplace accidents.

Concluding the meeting, Kairat Maxutov issued a series of specific instructions aimed at further enhancing the effectiveness of measures to reduce workplace injuries.

 

Measures to strengthen electrical safety in production

The Occupational Health Department of Samruk-Energy JSC held an extended meeting with workshop managers and those responsible for the operation of electrical installations at the group’s subsidiaries and affiliates. The discussion focused on enhancing electrical safety across production facilities.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that compliance with electrical safety requirements is a critical component in protecting employees’ lives and health.

“We cannot allow safety to be treated as a formality. Every violation poses a direct risk to employees’ lives. We are strengthening requirements and introducing personal accountability, along with additional control measures to prevent workplace incidents”, - noted Duisenbek Shardarbekov, Director of Occupational Health Department.

Participants reviewed the main causes of electrical incidents and discussed measures to prevent them. Particular attention was given to strengthening managerial responsibility for organizational and technical safety measures, as well as implementing proactive approaches aimed at preventing workplace injuries.

Employee safety remains an unquestionable priority for Samruk-Energy JSC. The company will continue to enhance protective measures to further reduce electrical incidents across its enterprises.

 

“AI Leaders”: Strategic session on the use of artificial intelligence

Samruk-Energy JSC held a strategic session on the integration of artificial intelligence across its subsidiaries as part of the “AI Leaders” program.

The event was attended by Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy JSC. The session brought together executives from across Samruk-Energy group and became a key platform for discussing the role of AI in the energy sector.

The main objective of the session was to establish a unified direction for AI-driven initiatives, identify priority areas, and define practical steps for scaling digital solutions across Samruk-Energy group.

 

Meeting of Samruk-Energy JSC Board of Directors’ Committee members with talent pool participants

As part of Samruk-Energy group’s HR Policy Implementation Plan for 2023–2031, an annual meeting was held between members of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC) of Samruk-Energy JSC Board of Directors and high-potential employees included in the company’s succession plan and talent pool.

This year’s central theme was Developing strategic thinking, a priority skill for professionals working in a fast-evolving and highly competitive energy sector. In the context of global shifts across the industry—including the transition to sustainable energy sources, digitalization, and climate challenges—the ability to design and execute long-term strategies has become essential for lasting success.

During the event, participants engaged in practical tasks, interactive exercises, and case studies aimed at strengthening strategic thinking capabilities. Discussions emphasized the importance of forward-looking decision-making amid rapidly changing technologies and energy markets.

Participants demonstrated a high level of engagement and a strong interest in the future of the energy industry, underscoring the role of strategic thinking in ensuring the company’s sustainable development.

The meeting featured remarks from NRC members, who shared their insights and strategic perspectives, offering valuable guidance for further professional growth. They expressed confidence in the strong potential of the company’s talent pool and wished participants success on their leadership journey—particularly within the energy sector, which demands agility, innovation, and the ability to navigate global challenges.

As a result of the meeting, participants gained not only theoretical knowledge but also practical tools to strengthen their strategic approach in their professional roles.

 

Samruk-Energy strengthens support for domestic manufacturers

Askar Baltabayev, Managing Director for Procurement and Risks at Samruk-Energy JSC, held a review meeting to assess the procurement performance of the group’s subsidiaries and affiliates over the first ten months of the year.

The discussion focused on key procurement metrics, including the achievement of the annual plan, engagement with domestic manufacturers, the share of local content, and the efficiency of procurement activities. Special attention was given to advancing import substitution and expanding the use of offtake contracts as an effective tool to support national producers.

In 2025, the Samruk-Energy group expects to sign contracts for goods worth KZT 199.5 billion, with local content accounting for 74% of the total. These figures demonstrate steady progress in increasing the participation of domestic companies in procurement processes.

Following the meeting, subsidiaries and affiliates were instructed to ensure full compliance with Samruk-Kazyna JSC’s procurement regulations, prioritize domestic manufacturers in procurement activities, and continue efforts to increase the share of local content.
