The Internal Audit Service (referred to as IAS) functions as the single centralized department within “Samruk-Energy” JSC. It operates directly under the authority of the Board of Directors. The IAS is responsible for overseeing the financial and business activities of “Samruk-Energy” JSC's group of companies. It evaluates internal control and risk management processes, ensures compliance with corporate governance documents, and offers consultation to enhance the performance of “Samruk-Energy” JSC's group of companies.

The primary objective of the IAS’s operations is to provide the Board of Directors with impartial consultations and auditing assurances. This is achieved through a systematic and consistent approach to analyzing and evaluating the risk management and internal control system, as well as corporate governance.

The conformity of IAS efforts with the International Professional Standards for Internal Auditing was validated by an external independent appraiser from KPMG Tax and Advisory LLP in late 2020.

The activities of the IAS were assessed by the Board of Directors as "Effective" based on the results of 2022.

From March 4, 2020, Bekzhan Kassymbekov has been heading the Internal Audit Service, a position he undertook following his appointment in accordance with the decision of “Samruk-Energy” JSC Board of Directors.

Education:

He holds a Bachelor's degree from Almaty University of Energy and Communications. His Master's degree was earned at Lancaster University (United Kingdom, a recipient of the state-sponsored "Bolashak" program). He possesses a range of international professional certificates, including Dip ICFM (DipCPIA) from the International Institute of Financial Managers of the United Kingdom, from the EXIN (ITIL) international institute, the International Project Management Association Certificate (IPMA) from Switzerland, and a Diploma in Internal Audit from the Institute of Financial Analysts in the UK (DipIA IFA). In 2023, he completed the Executive MBA program at Nazarbayev University.

Professional experience:

During 2012 to 2014, he was engaged in audit and consulting within the global corporations Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

From 2014 to 2018, he worked in various positions (including the position of the head of the IAS) at “Baiterek” NMHC” JSC group.

From 2018 to 2020, he was involved in the domain of internal audit within “Capital Holding” LLP group.

Since March 4, 2020, he has been the head of the IAS of “Samruk-Energy” JSC.
